Updated: Jul 9, 2023

Nigeria been in the tropics comes with a humid and hot weather and many instances, fans which are meant to relief us of many discomforts that comes with the humid season are wrongly used which result to them not having impact on us or making our surrounding comfortable enough.

This article will help you to decide how to place your fans and what optimal speeds actually is the sweet spot to watch out for when using your fans.

Tip #1 - Ensure that the blades and housing of the fan is cleaned.

Many at times, we often forget how dusty our environment is and because air is being circulated by fans, dust tends to stick and settle more on their blades, thereby reducing their cooling effects.

Tip #2 - Using Energy Efficient Fans

It is no longer news to know that some fans are energy monster (Power guzzlers) , typical example is OX fan. While this fan can move a large volume of air fast, the energy they consume is rather high, a typical energy efficient fan will consume lesser energy and will move cool air in a decent manner. E.g., A 16" Ox fan will take a around 90W at highest while a 16" energy efficient fan will take 10W to run.

Tip #3 - Place your fan against your window.

Placing the back of your fan against the window, can greatly refresh and replace humid air trapped in a room, thereby reducing the room temperature and regulating humidity. Because air is a fluid, as fresh air is pulled into the room by the fan, spent air are expelled through the open windows too.

Tip #4 - Use of Timer

Using the timer preinstalled on some fans can be very rewarding by saving you more on your electric bills, as temperature drops more at night, so also is level of comfort reduces. Knowing when the conditions are perfect and our of comfort and setting the timer to go off at said periods will reduce energy consumption overall.
